CLEVELAND — Four suspects charged with kidnapping a Cleveland man are being held on $1 million bond after pleading not guilty in Cleveland Municipal Court today (Friday).

In court were Umar Clark, 19, Jay Hillsman, 24, Ron Brunson, 34, and Duane Gibson, 39, all of Cleveland.

In addition, Clark faces aggravated murder charges as well because he was in the car with another suspect, Leon James, when police shot and killed James.

This all unfolded about 11:30 a.m. Monday, when a Cleveland man, 58, was allegedly kidnapped from his house. His brother called police after a ransom demand was made.

Police ended up on Herrick Road and found the victim in the front seat of his truck, restrained by duct tape.

One of the alleged kidnappers was in the driver’s seat as police pulled up behind the truck. That’s when the driver put the truck in reverse and struck the cruiser, according to the police report.

Then police shot and killed James, who was the driver.
