RATON, N.M. – The New Mexico Transportation Commission has approved more than $20 million in funding to help local governments make improvements in roads, bus routes and school parking lots.
The money comes from the Local Government Road Fund. As a condition of receiving the funds, local governments and school districts are required to match 25 percent of the state money.
Transportation Commission Chairman Pete Rahn says the funding will help make the transportation system safer and allow traffic to move more easily.
About $2.9 million will go toward area public schools for parking lot improvements, construction of additional bus lanes and general reconstruction across the state.
More than $10 million will go toward pavement improvements and drainage improvements in county and municipal arterial programs in the Transportation Department’s six districts.
