– The state could really use extra money right now, which is why it’s going after its biggest suspected tax delinquents. The top 10 delinquent taxpayers owe a total of more than six and a half million dollars.
Many of the companies have gone belly up.
Tax and Revenue Secretary Demesia Padilla said her office spent weeks putting the list together and she personally called each and everyone on it to tell them the list was going public.
“In some cases some of them just flat out told me ‘I can’t make any kind of arrangement right now. Yes, I owe the state x amount of money but in addition to that I owe the federal government x plus more,” Padilla said. But one Rio Rancho business we talked to said the state has it all wrong. Aquatic pools claims it doesn’t owe the state half a million dollars like tax and revenue claims.
In a statement the company said it doesn’t owe the state any back tax money. The company is suing the state over the dispute.
