MIDDLETOWN — Middletown police have arrested three people who allegedly sold counterfeit tickets to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky.
On Thursday, James Copp, 26, of Hamilton, John Berg, 23, of West Chester Twp., and Lindsey Berg, 24, of Vandalia, were arrested and charged with theft and forgery.
Middletown police detectives said the trio were manufacturing tickets to the amusement park and selling them on the Internet. The alleged scam was discovered when a Monroe man met John Berg in the Walmart parking lot and paid $220 for tickets. The man discovered the tickets were bogus when he went to the park.
Cedar Point police said a similar incident occurred in the parking lot of Fricker’s in Middletown, when $175 worth of fake tickets were sold.
Equipment allegedly used to facilitate the illegal enterprise was seized and the suspects were taken into custody, Middletown police said.
Middletown police Detective Steve Winters said the investigation was aided when the wife of one of the victims wrote down the license plate number of the person selling the tickets.
The three will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Middletown Municipal Court.
